NI EN MORE (NI una más / ikke EN til / not one MORE)
NOT ONE MORE WOMAN MURDERED IN CIUDAD JUÁREZ, NOT ONE MORE WOMAN MURDERED ANYWHERE ELSE.
What is NI EN MORE? NI EN MORE is a collaborative social innovation project, that merges political activism, fashion and art. Women from Norway, USA and Mexico are creating a small-scale sewing studio in the border town of Ciudad Juárez, in the north of Mexico. Our team of people brings together skills from art, fashion, activism and social work, based on a deep connection with the local community in Cd Juárez.
For decades women have systematically disappeared from Cd. Juárez and hundreds have been found murdered at the city's outskirts. This situation has to stop, both in Cd Juárez and in the rest of the world. Every third woman on our planet are exposed to physical and /or sexual violence at some point in her lifetime. Unfortunately, this problem is not diminishing.
The Mexican writer and director Lourdes Portillo's award winning documentary film, "Señorita Extraviada /Missing Young Woman" (2002), shares the brutal history of the Femicides in Cd Juárez and sheds light on what, how and why this has been happening and still happens.
How can fashion help solve violence against women? To have a job is a first step towards economic independence. NI EN MORE’s production of garments takes place under fair and safe conditions. The sales profits go back to the workers' communities to empower the women. Buying NI EN MORE's fashion items will therefore help make a difference. When you wear a NI EN MORE garment, you are wearing a protest towards violence against women, symbolized through our slogan "NI EN MORE" visibly attached to each garment. You can also read the story of the women who have made your piece and track the influence of your purchase and donation. This is an important part of NI EN MORE's goal and vision!
To begin with, we will start up one smallscale sewing studio in Ciudad Juárez. But to achieve this, we need your help!
Please join our initiative by supporting the NI EN MORE project.
